Introduction

UPDATE: Saturday 6th June 2021

Club of the Year 2021

Table Tennis England held their National Conference online on Saturday and as part of this conference held the Pride of Table Tennis Awards.  I am honoured to annouce that we were named National Club of the Year 2021.  This is a great achievement for the club which has only being going for 3 years and out of around 400 clubs nationally.  This is down to  the hard work of the commitee and the continued support of all our members and those that attend our open sessions, thank you.

UPDATE: 22nd May 2021

Following the latest Government Covid timeline and announcements we are pleased to say we are at last able to open for both juniors and adults again.

We still need to adhere to Covid control measures and restrictions and as such we will still maintain bubbles of 6 and maximum occupancy in the tt room of 20 individuals for the initial period and no one is allowed to attend without booking or being part of an organised bubble.

Look at the "club news"  section for details of both junior and adult beginers sessions restarting Thursday 10th June for non members.

Stay safe and hopefully we will see you all again soon

Welcome back.

Welcome to Goodwin Table Tennis club’s homepage.

We are fairly new club by way of  name and venue. We were formally known as Hull YPI (Young People’s Institute) and based down Chanterands Avenue in Hull.  We had to move venues for various reasons in July 2018 and are now on the 2nd Floor, The Octagon Centre, Walker Street, Hull HU3 2RA.

It was then we decided to rebrand and relaunch ourselves as Goodwin Table Tennis Club. We must have down something right because we managed to be named Yorkshire Table Tennis Club of the year and Runner up as National Table Tennis Club of the year for 2018, in our first year of relaunch.

We have around 80 members and the majority of them play in teams in the local Hull & District Table Tennis Association League - https://www.tabletennis365.com/Hull.  Our members range from 8 to 80 year olds of all abilities. Some members just play for fun and don’t wish to play in any league competition, which is fine too.

We are a friendly welcoming club and are always looking for new players of all ages and abilities to come and join us. You might be a complete beginner, play for fun at home or at a school or club or an experienced player returning to the game.

We can use our table tennis room 7 days a week and members or visitors can play most days. This is based around any bookings and table availability we have. We have a list of sessions you can attend on our website, see Weekly schedule, but please feel free to drop us an email if you are thinking of coming down to play and we can talk through with you when might be the best time and options, otherwise if you just turn up the door may be locked and you won't be able to get in.  We can loan you a bat and ball if you haven’t got one or we can advise you about buying one as we have links to the major table tennis equipment suppliers in the country.

We run various sessions during the week. On Monday and Thursday afternoons 1:30 to 3:30pm we run Over 50 sessions. These are available for members or guest to attend.

If you are an adult, and can’t make the Monday or Thursday daytime sessions, Sunday morning 10am to 12 noon is a popular slot to come and play. There are usually a number of players down who can give you a game and little advice if you are beginner.

If you are a complete beginner or a club member and need some help or coaching, we try and run an adults (and older children - over 12) session most Thursday’s 7:30 to 9pm. Again, please contact us if interested, we would hate for you to turn up on a week we are not running a session for various reasons.  Like all our sessions they are run by volunteers and sometimes they have other things on outside of table tennis,  how dare they!

We run a kid’s session most Thursday nights 6 to 7pm. This is mainly for 7 to 11-year olds.  Contact us if you are interested in this. We will provide some coaching and give them the opportunity to have fun and play some games. We ran a very successful Table Tennis England TT Kidz 8-week  programme (read more about it at https://www.ttkidz.co.uk/ ) for 7 to 11-year-old beginners.  Look on here or our Facebook page for any future courses we might run. You can see some pictures of the first group having a great time in our photo gallery.

All our sessions are free for the first couple of visits while you try it out and decide if it is something for you. But please drop us a line/email if you are new so we know you are coming and so we can make sure someone is there to say hi and greet you.

Under our previous club Hull YPI and now as Goodwin Table tennis club we have produced a number of players who have represented Hull, played County table tennis for Yorkshire and a handful have gone on to achieve England honours.

Our venue on the 2nd floor of the Octagon Centre is arguably the best conditions for table tennis in East Yorkshire.  High quality table tennis tables and international standard flooring.  We have 5 tables  available for matches and daily for practice, with the option of wheeling in extra tables for sessions if needed.  Again, take a look in our photo gallery.  We host the majority of local league matches from here and host local and regional competitions, with some of the best players in Yorkshire coming to play from our venue.

Goodwin Table Tennis Club is run by a team of hard working and enthusiastic volunteers who make up the committee who together with our members try to provide a welcoming friendly club for all.
