Working under strict covid rules, sport England have allowed Table Tennis England to run their 2021 national championships for the u10 to u13 age groups and the u15 and u19 age groups. TTE select the top players on each of the rankings to compete in the showcase event of the year held at Warwick university. No doubles matches were allowed due to the pandemic.
The Draycott Table Tennis club had 18 players selected to play across all age groups with another 4 selected but unable to go through isolation ,
7 players were selected to play in the u10-u13 age groups , and came away with 4 medals, however, Sienna from London was in great form in the girl's events the England no1 knocking out all our girls in the u13, Mellissa in the last 16 then Millie in the semis for the bronze medal, and Naomi in the final who picked up the silver. Jemima had a great u11 tournament losing in the semis winning a well-deserved bronze to another in-form player Alyssa from Plymouth who won both the u10 and u11 girls - in the u12 girls both Mellissa and Millie showed great composure as both were drawn in the same group with Millie going top of the group and Mellissa coming 2nd she again met the eventual winner Sienna in the last 16 - this time Mellissa played even better than the first match and took the 3rd game but ran out losing 3-1. in what was a very unlucky draw. Millie battled her way through to the semis just losing out 3-2 to pick up another bronze.
In the boys Winston, Aden, and Thomas all had great tournaments Aden got out of his group in the u11 despite playing the England no 1 boy and went out in the last 16 14-12 in the 5th he then played the u12 boys and got through his group beating the 4th seed but again losing in the last 16 finally he played in the u10 boys winning his group but just losing out in the last 8, Winston played really well in the u12 boys losing out to the 4th seed in his group but still progressing to the last 16 and then was unlucky to draw the no 5 seed and eventual winner in the next round. Thomas drew the no 1 seed in his u10 group and despite playing well did not progress.
Draycott had another 5 players in the u19 and 6 players in the under 15 events however missing due to isolation was Anna and Connor Green the u15 girl and boy number 1 seeds
In the u19 boys Poww and Toby met in the semis with Toby progressing to the final and collected a silver leaving Poww with the bronze in the u19 girls Lucy could not get out of a tough group however Megan and Erin made the semis both collecting a bronze
in the u15 boys Joseph “JJ” Cooper made it through the group to go out to Georgios in the last 16 whilst Inara and Millie came 4th in their groups in the u15 girls despite Inara winning two matches and was unlucky to lose another two in five. Naomi made the last 16 and Connie battled through to the last 8 However Bethany played beautifully all day going to the final and taking the u15 girl’s national title.
well done to all the parent's players and coaches who under difficult covid restrictions made it a great event. it was great experience for all our players who have not competed for 16 month
